Women in Business Network Shines in Derby

FCM was delighted to meet over 50 business women from Derby who welcomed the Women in Business networking group at its first event in the city, a wellbeing networking brunch, on Thursday 19th April, at the University of Derby!

Celebrating its fourth anniversary in 2018, the Women in Business group, founded by FCM Associates Ltd and law firm Smith Partnership, were delighted to kick start their 2018 programme by extending their reach from Staffordshire, to attract more business women from Derbyshire.

Karen McElroy, Director of FCM Associates said: “We are so pleased to have celebrated our fourth anniversary at the University of Derby in April, attracting lots of new faces to our networking group. Our role as a partner is to promote the events in the local media and on social media platforms, and we hope our new push into Derby will be well received in 2018!

“There is no membership or pressure to speak in front of everyone at our events – it’s all about building skills and confidence, and we know that the ladies go away feeling empowered and energised to make better decisions in their lives, for both personal or professional reasons.”

The first event welcomed inspirational speaker Jackie Wilson, owner of Empower Education, who revealed her personal journey and offered the ladies professional advice to deal with emotional wellbeing, both in their professional and personal lives, she said: “It was a pleasure to meet the ladies at Women in Business and share my own story of how self-development and well-being changed by life. My hope was for the ladies to go away believing that true beauty lives within them – I call it our inner treasure.

“I invited them to go on their own journey of self-discovery, so that they can shine their inner light brightly and un-tap their unlimited potential, using their unique skills and talents to improve their lives, both at home and at work!”

Marie Lawrence, an MBA student at the University of Derby who attended the event said: “I really enjoyed joining the first Women in Business event in Derby, it was wonderful to meet so many professionals from a variety of businesses many of whom I may not have met in my daily role.

“I would love to attend more events like this and would encourage students from any academic discipline, who are planning their career path to attend future events, make new contacts and gain confidence in their abilities.”

The success of Women in Business has led to the network expanding into the City of Derby in 2018, which brings new opportunities for more partners to get involved, and to hold events at new and exciting venues across the region.

The delegates also raised over £50 for local breast cancer charity Every Cloud by selling raffle tickets winning some fabulous prizes, donated by local businesses.

The networking group was delighted to welcome four new partners and supporters: University of Derby, Cureton Consulting, Barclays Premier and Noble Photos, who have joined the team to provide fresh ideas and support to ensure the group continues to thrive!
