Client News: A Champion Year for Burton Albion

Burton Albion is riding high after securing a place in the Sky Bet English Football League Championship division for a second season. The small yet mighty Midlands football club will be celebrating this momentous occasion for many weeks and months to come.

Whilst the football team has been busy making miracles on the pitch, Commercial Director, Fleur Robinson and her Commercial Team have been focussed on growing the business side of Burton Albion, taking advantage of the Brewers’ meteoric rise up the ranks of English football. Fleur said:

“When our Chairman, Ben Robinson, my father, took over the club, in our wildest dreams we never thought we’d be playing Championship football or be able to grow the commercial side of the business to what it is today. It has been fantastic to exceed even our highest expectations. It feels great to be actually living the dream by staying in the Championship for a second season and we’re excited about what that will bring for the whole club.”

Indeed, Fleur and her team have transformed the commercial side of the football club over the last decade. Last season alone the Club welcomed 124,000 spectators, 8,000 people enjoyed match day hospitality and around 30,000 people attended a conference or event.

Involved in football since the age of five, Fleur is passionate about opening up more opportunities for women in football and removing any myths about glass ceilings that may exist.

Commenting on being just one of eight women elected to the 120-member Football Association Council, she said: “Things are changing, albeit slowly, for women’s football and sport. There are more women in key decision-making roles across sport and I am optimistic about the future, especially being able to influence further change as part of the Council.”

Looking forward to the next football season Fleur summed up: “Last season we rose to the challenge and received fantastic support from our community including our sponsors and loyal fans.  Next season we will be looking to sustain our position in what will be a tougher season than this season, whilst continuing to make the most of the opportunities that being a Championship Club brings.

"I’m looking forward to working with everyone at the Club to continue our success even further – there are definitely more exciting things to come for The Brewers!”

In June, Fleur will be taking part in the Prostrate Cancer UK’s flagship fundraising event Football to Amsterdam with a team of 10 people from Burton Albion, and joining football clubs from all over the country to cycle 145 miles to the Dutch capital city.
